Sailing yacht charter

The whole vessel, a full crew, and a route built around the wind rather than a timetable. Day sails to the Gilis from USD 1,330, or a week east with the trade winds behind you.

How it works

You charter the boat not a seat

A private hire of a crewed sailing yacht or catamaran, starting or ending in Lombok, usually one to seven days. No shared cabins, no fixed departure, no other group on deck.

We plan the route first and match the hull to it — real sailing times between Lombok, the Gilis, Sekotong Bay, Sumbawa and Komodo, so the sail plan fits the distance rather than the brochure.

The wind writes the route

MAY–SEP

Southeast Trades

The reliable season. Steady trade winds support the long passages east — Lombok to Sumbawa to Komodo — with calmer northern coasts and consistent sailing angles. This is when the multi-day crossings are worth doing under sail.

NOV–MAR

Northwest Monsoon

More variable, with occasional squalls across the Lombok Strait and the open stretch to Sumbawa. Itineraries shorten: the Gilis, the Secret Gilis of Sekotong Bay, and sheltered water at Kuta Lombok and Selong Belanak.

APR / OCT

Shoulder Months

Quieter anchorages and softer pricing, with weather that usually still cooperates. The best value on the calendar if your dates are flexible.

The honest difference

Why choose sail

Quieter Passage

Engines off, and the only sound is water on the hull. It changes how a whole day feels.

Stable At Anchor

A sail catamaran barely moves. Wide decks and easy water access from both hulls.

Lower Fuel Burn

Wind does the work where it can. Less fuel, less noise, less wake through the reefs.

Slower, Deliberately

7–9 knots. If your schedule is tight, a motor yacht is the honest answer instead.

What does a Lombok sailing yacht charter cost?

Day charters for a crewed sail catamaran up to 14 guests start around USD 1,330 per boat as of August 2026. Multi-day itineraries such as Lombok–Gili and the Secret Gilis 2D1N start from USD 3,400 per charter, including yacht, captain, crew, fuel for the agreed route and meals on board.

When is the best season to sail from Lombok?

May to September. The southeast trade winds are most reliable then, supporting passages from Lombok through Sumbawa to Komodo with calmer northern coasts. November to March brings the northwest monsoon and more variable wind, so itineraries shift to shorter, sheltered hops.

How is a sailing yacht different from a motor yacht here?

Sailing yachts and catamarans use wind and cruise at 7–9 knots; motor yachts run on engines at 15–25 knots. Monohull sailing yachts heel under sail, which some guests love and others do not. Sail catamarans stay flat and offer wider decks, which is why they dominate the day-charter fleet.

Do we actually sail, or is the engine on all day?

On the trade-wind season passages, genuinely under sail for long stretches. On short hops and against the wind the engine does the work — no crew will pretend otherwise. We plan legs so the sailing happens where the wind supports it.
